I’m right in the middle of picking out photos for our album. I had no idea it’d be this hard, and I have a newfound sympathy for those couples going through the same process! Digging through the box of proofs our photographers gave us, I’m reminded why it’s so important to have professional photographers - they will catch things that you will otherwise never see, that no one else can be trained to look for. Here are some details that are making me get pretty emotional :)

Yes, this is me. In my wedding dress. Pouring ketchup on my hamburger. I was a very happy camper.

You may ask, why Brad’s shoes? Well, it’s because he lost his shoes for the wedding up until fifteen minutes before the ceremony. It cracks me up just thinking about it.

This was during the toasts. Again, our photographers are absolutely amazing, and they caught so many things that we would’ve missed but represent our day and the love and celebration. I’m so glad that they were there to document it.

Meet Stosch, the solo canine attendant at our wedding. I only remember seeing her as I was getting ready before the ceremony - it’s clear she’s totally pooped after having so much fun at our reception.

This is immediately after the ceremony, just before people started coming out to greet us in the receiving line. This is our SECOND kiss as husband and wife, and we were just reveling in being married. I thought no one saw us. :)
Wedding photography is, no doubt about it, the hardest job I’ve ever had. It’s the most physically draining and mentally exhausting, since you are on your toes the entire time watching for these shots. It’s also the most gratifying and wonderful, and the feeling you get when you know you catch moments like these is absolutely phenomenal.
Another installment of five random things on this soon-to-be-dreary Friday. I had to check on last month’s post to make sure I didn’t repeat myself!
- This studio. It’s incredible - the space, the design, everything. I wish I had room in our house to have something like this for when clients come over. Then I’d have them come over all the time, just to hang out! Oh, can you imagine? Brad would LOVE to cook dinner for people that often. And I’d make cupcakes. Oh geez, my daydreaming is out of control.
- Dark chocolate Milky Way bars. As my husband has learned, things like this are an easy fix for bad days.
- Google Calendar. Not only can I share my ASI calendar with my second shooters so they can see what’s coming up, but I can also see what’s going on with Brad’s four (FOUR) calendars as well. It makes things really convenient, and saves paper while we’re at it.
- Kubota’s Action Pack 2. I have all four (including the Production Tools) and this is my favorite. In particular, I use the Mocha BW for lots of my black and white conversions, and I use the Daily Multi-Vitamin for just about every photograph. And adding a little Lord of the Rings Everyday (at a low percent) can really make a difference to ceremony or baby portraits.
- Twitter. I’ve only started using it, but I already love it. It’s like blogging but simpler and better, and I’m automatically caught up with friends (and they with me!). I think I’ll start another account for what we’re working on for ASI.
Big news: Carmen’s moving to San Francisco! I’m so excited for her; what a creative place. She’s working on her online portfolio now, to house her writing, photography and perhaps some other things. So of course she needed headshtos! These were all taken in Old Town, Alexandria. And of course, they needed to seethe creativity and her really wonderful personality.

I really like that the wind started to pick up:

And my absolute favorite:

Yesterday, Creative Montage named us their Featured Vendor for March! They put up some of our favorite photos and we loved answering the questions. Head on over and check it out!
Short post today (and for much of this week). I just wanted to remind everyone that we’ve got reviews up on WeddingWire: http://www.weddingwire.com/asofterimage
If you’re a client and would like to add yours, please do so! We sincerely appreciate the feedback - you are what makes this job the most fulfilling. It helps us to grow and be the best we can be!
I read a great post this morning on Manolo for the Brides about veils. She includes some great insight, including a list of pros and cons to wearing a veil on your wedding day. I had a veil as a “just in case” for the day of - I knew that it would drive me crazy if I wore it, but what if on the morning of my wedding I decided I wanted to wear it? :) My favorite part of this article is when she wrote:
Tradition be damned — honey, you’ll be just as married if you say ‘I do’ while wearing jeans and a bad case of bed head.
Check out the post here!
In my switch from old G3 to beautiful new iMac, I actually found a lot of photos that I’d forgotten about. Quite a few brought back strong memories of photo jobs, and a number were much more personal. I thought I’d share a few today.
Last summer, at Brooke and Michael’s wedding, Brad and I were out in the chapel parking lot getting ready to head to the reception when this little friend decided to come along for the ride on Brad’s camera.

About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine and I were in a very serious car accident on the way to her cousin’s wedding. We hydroplaned through two big country fences (the kind with logs and barbed wire) and landed in a field. Not only did she and I walk away from the crash, but so did our instruments (a guitar and a violin), two cameras, two laptops, and various other photo equipment. The car was totaled, and we were told we were incredibly lucky. This photo was taken the next day after the wedding - it’s of the groom and his dog, both beaming.

This is one of the first photos I took with my first real DSLR. I was driving home from work (interning at an insurance company, believe it or not) and saw this guy walking down my street. Slowly. He was actually very close to my house, so I pulled in the driveway and ran inside to get my father. Dad picked him up and carried him to the fenced-in playground behind our house (we lived next to a church that also housed a preschool). I then had a blast taking this guy’s glamor shots.

One of my bridesmaids and I took an excursion right after I got engaged to check out what would later be our reception site. It’s a beautiful park that I frequented in high school (ultimate frisbee, baby) and we hung out in the gazebo after wandering around to scope it out. While she took a phone call, I took her photo.

Lastly, this is a photo from Brad’s and my honeymoon. It’s his favorite photo (he took it). We had taken two ferries to reach this island to see some lighthouses, and ended up in this big field. It was 72 degrees and gorgeous. I felt like my heart was leaping out of my body, the day couldn’t have felt more beautiful.

Ali, her mother and I spent a fun morning last fall at the stables where Ali rides. Even though it was chilly, the autumnal colors warmed up the photo session and the expanses of fields to ride in were a ton of fun to work in.

Today I read a really good post on DCNearlyweds about wedding websites (something we just recently posted about). I’ve included a snippet below, but click here to see the full post and pictures!
The original Moo cards allow you to put a picture on the front and a few lines of text on the back. You can put any image you want that isn’t copyrighted…so you can put your engagement pics on there, or your dog’s pic, or your “monogram” or “motif” or whatever it is you have going on with your wedding…
With the Moo Text Minicards you can put whatever text you want on the front and then six lines on the back of information. So we put our website address on the front and then said something like “for all the information you will need about our wedding please visit our website. Password: hitched”.”

Sofia
Jamie spent Sunday becoming our best baby and family photographer. She was photographing…

this cutie, Sofia. She’s just learned how to walk, but still needs some help once in a while:

Adorable:

Jamie got some great family portraits:

And, my favorite of the whole bunch:

(That’s real in-camera flare!)
